Friday Reads: Blankets

When I picked up Craig Thompson’s Blankets from my local library, I wasn’t expecting a nearly 600-page tome, but that’s exactly what it is. Thankfully, since it’s a graphic novel, it doesn’t read one. The artwork is gorgeous. The writing is expressive. The story is sweet. If you do a search for “best graphic novels”, Blankets will most certainly be on the list. It’s an autobiographical coming-of-age story, and when you’re reading it you can completely understand why it took Thompson over three years to create. I’m loving my new morning ritual of reading a graphic novel while eating breakfast. Such a nice way of starting the day.
