Our Souls at Night is perhaps the perfect title for this short little book. I’m about to turn the last few pages and I can honestly say that I’ve loved every word of it. I signed it out from the library, but I think I’m going to have to buy myself a copy because I’m positive that I’ll read it again at some point. This is Kent Haruf’s final novel. In the spring of 2014 he was diagnosed with lung disease and decided to write one last book. He finished the first draft in just 45 days and kept editing until the days before he died in November. Our Souls at Night is a simple story told beautifully. You should read it.

P.S. The Wall Street Journal has a great article on Haruf’s life and final days, which you can read here.
