Peter Wohlleben’s The Hidden Life of Trees is on my to-read list, but when I saw that his new book, The Inner Life of Animals, came out this month, I decided to read it first. For a scientific book, it’s pretty short, and each succinct chapter has a different focus with topics ranging from gratitude, grief, and shame, to aliens, oracles, and evil itself. I’ll echo what some reviewers mention, which is that if you’re an animal lover this book might not provide you with any new information. However, even if you don’t learn anything new you’ll likely still enjoy reading Wohlleben’s observations and tales. It definitely makes me want to move The Hidden Life of Trees to the top of my TBR pile.
