Judge the book cover: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Last week I was lucky enough to attend a screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at TIFF. This screening was part of their Food on Film series and also included a discussion (about dessert!) with Christina Tosi, founder and owner of Momofuku Milk Bar. Christina was nice enough to bring everyone a compost cookie®, so needless to say I was in a very happy place while watching the movie.
I remember reading once that Roald Dahl hated the 1971 movie adaptation so much because of how different it was from his book. And while it’s true that they are quite different, I actually really liked the film version. It made me laugh, the music was great, Gene Wilder was perfection. In fact, it was so good that it almost completely erased the memory of Tim Burton’s awful 2005 version. We should all just pretend that never happened.
After the screening, I pulled out my copy of Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and started reading it again. A fantastic book with many fantastic book covers over the years. Which one is your favourite?

I always liked the Quentin Blake illustrations… and I agree that the Gene Wilder version of Willy Wonka was way better than the Johnny Depp one.
