Late last year I realized that I had never read anything by Raymond Chandler. So this year I finally did something about it. I started with his classic novel The Big Sleep. I’ll be honest, I didn’t love it. Actually, let me be more accurate. I loved Chandler’s writing style. The dialogue was fantastic, the tone was perfect. But I never really got into the plot like I wanted to. At some point early on in the book, I got lost in the character names and murder victims. Could it be because I was listening to the audiobook instead reading the actual book? Perhaps. To find out, I should try a little experiment. I could reread The Big Sleep in book format this time, choosing from one of the amazing covers below, and see if it changes my opinion at all. Worth a shot, don’t you think?
