Pretty much everyone I’ve ever met is shocked to hear that I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables because a) I’m a book nerd, and b) I’m Canadian. This year I decided that I’ve spent enough years on this earth living with this literary shame. So I bought myself a copy of L.M. Montgomery’s classic book and I’m now getting to know Anne with an e. It didn’t take me long to understand why people have such affection for this book. It’s charming and such a pleasure to read. There seems to be a lot of interest in Anne of Green Gables at the moment, due in part to the Netflix adaptation, I’m sure. But while I’m curious to see what Netflix did to this story, I’m not sure that I ever will after reading this Vanity Fair review.
