Friday Reads: Ariel

Posted by

Over the years I’ve been slowly getting to know Sylvia Plath a bit better. I started with The Bell Jar, as many people do. Then I read Pain, Parties, Work by Elizabeth Winder, followed by Plath’s unabridged journals. So it’s about time I read Ariel, a book of her poetry. I chose the restored edition, which is a facsimile of Plath’s original manuscript. It includes handwritten notes and complete working drafts of her poem “Ariel”. It also has a foreword written by Frieda Hughes, her daughter. I haven’t read any Plath biographies yet, but I’m sure I will eventually. I still feel like I want to know more about her. I want to get even closer.

What are you reading?
