“For is there any practice less selfish, any labour less alienated, any time less wasted, than preparing something delicious and nourishing for people you love?”
I hadn’t really planned on reading Michael Pollan’s newest book, Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation, until I heard his interview with Jian Ghomeshi. Cooked sounded like the kind of book I could really get into. I love the cultural aspect of food, the history behind it and the ritual of it all. Cooked goes into that, divided quite nicely by the elements fire (BBQ), water (boiling & braising), air (baking) and earth (fermenting & brewing). I’m really enjoying it so far.
