Before I started reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest I’d already heard that it was “quirky” and had an unusual narrative structure. Those are both red flags for me because when those quirky, unusual books aren’t done well they are usually pretty dreadful. But I’m a sucker for food writing so I picked it up anyway, and I’m so glad I did. J. Ryan Stradal has written a memorable book with such a distinct style. I’m almost done and I’m truly going to miss reading it.
What are you reading?
P.S. I’m also completely in love with the book’s cover design. Gorgeous.
