Friday Reads: My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward

Posted by

Mark Lukach’s memoir, My Lovely Wife in the Psych Ward, is so honest that at times it can be quite shocking. I haven’t had much direct experience with mental illness in my life, something I’m obviously very thankful for. But I recognize that I might not be so lucky for my entire life. In Canada, 1 in 5 will experience a mental health or addiction problem in any given year. And according to the Canadian Mental Health Association, about 50% of the population will have or have had a mental illness by the age of 40. I won’t give anything about Mark and Giulia’s story away because I think the book is worth reading. But I will say that I am in awe of those who deal with mental illness in their lives. It takes so much strength to deal with the illness itself, not to mention the stigma. This book has really opened my eyes to the reality that many people face.
