I couldn’t resist buying a breakfast cookie at Rooster Coffee House. The charismatic young man behind the counter told me it was “healthy”, and that was all the encouragement I needed. I enjoyed every bite of it, while sipping my coffee and reading Dani Shapiro’s book, Still Writing: The Perils and Pleasures of a Creative Life. When I was done, I was in such a good mood that I took out my pencil and notebook and started writing. Normally I can’t get anything done in a coffee shop because I can’t stop listening in on the conversations around me long enough to form my own thoughts. But this day was different. I felt creative and inspired. Maybe it was the cookie. Maybe it was Shapiro’s lovely book. Either way, it was a great morning.
