Friday Reads: The Exorcist

Posted by

Back in 2012 when I first discovered that the movie that has scared the hell out of me for pretty much my entire life is actually based on a book, I made this bold statement:
“As much as I love comparing books to movies, I think it’s pretty safe to say that I won’t be reading The Exorcist. Ever.”
Well, here we are in 2016 and I’m not only reading The Exorcist, but I’m actually enjoying it. Never say never, I guess. William Peter Blatty’s book is incredibly well written, and despite the fact that it came out in the 70s it doesn’t sound dated at all. I’m actually listening to the audiobook version narrated by Blatty himself, who, as it turns out, is amazing at it. My thought was that I would listen to the book on my walk to and from work each day, because there was no way I’d read this book before going to sleep. Although, just because it’s daytime it doesn’t mean I’m not totally freaked out. The other day while listening to a particularly terrifying scene, a leaf fell on my head (damn you, autumn!) and I almost had a heart attack.

What are you reading?
