Here’s something you should know about me: I don’t half-ass anything. When I decide to do something, I do it. So when we decided that this was the year we would finally get a dog (we’ve been talking about it for years), I was in. I was all in. I immediately started reading as much about dogs as I could get my hands, and I plan on continuing with that until the day our puppy comes home with us. At that point I might be a little too busy potty training the pup to focus on reading, but I’m sure I’ll pick it up again as soon as things settle a bit. I can’t imagine going into this kind of commitment any other way, even though I realize many people just randomly decide to get a dog and go out and get one without putting any thought into it at all. That is so not me. One of the many dog books I’ve been reading is The Other End of the Leash: Why We Do What We Do Around Dogs by Patricia B. McConnell. Not only is it informative but it’s also engaging and funny, and I plan on reading as many of McConnell’s other books as I can in the weeks ahead.
