Reading The Vegetarian by Han Kang over the last couple of days has definitely been an interesting experience. It’s a short book, told in three parts. But while it might not take you long to read, it’s the type of book that will likely stay with you for awhile after you put it down. It’s violent and sexual, but also elegant and beautiful. The Vegetarian won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize, but make no mistake this book is not a crowd-pleaser. It will offend some and disturb many. But I love the writing (translated from Korean into English by Deborah Smith) and am so glad I decided to read it.
