I suppose a lot of people arrive at Raymond Carver’s short story collection What We Talk About When We Talk About Love after watching the film Birdman. Others arrive there after reading Haruki Murakami’s memoir What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. I don’t actually remember when or how I was first introduced to Carver’s work. It may have been a couple of years ago when someone gave me a copy of his first story collection, Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?. I loved that collection and refer back to it often, and I now feel the same about What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. If you don’t like short stories, Carver’s collections will change your mind. I promise.
