Even though I’m not hearing great things about the new film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express ( New Republic calls it a “Spectacular Massacre of a Classic” ), I’m still planning on watching it eventually. The cast is incredible, although I can’t remember the last time Johnny Depp made a good movie. And from what I remember of the trailer, the movie looks splashy enough to keep me entertained for a couple of hours.
But since I haven’t read the novel yet, or any Agatha Christie for that matter, I should probably pick up a copy of the book before I head to the theatre. In searching around for the edition I want to buy, I was disappointed in the selection of available book covers. None of the modern editions come close to the stunning movie poster treatment, seen at the top of this post. Maybe I’ll just scour some used bookstores until I find a vintage edition of this classic Christie novel.
